Differences compared to the standard Model Y

[edit]

Dimensions

[edit]

According to filings with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China, the Model Y L has the following dimensions:[3][4]

  • Length: 4,976 mm
  • Width: 1,920 mm
  • Height: 1,668 mm
  • Wheelbase: 3,040 mm

Compared to the standard five-seat Model Y, the L variant is 179 mm longer, 44 mm taller, and has a 150 mm longer wheelbase.[1]

Weight

[edit]

The curb weight of the Model Y L is 2,088 kg, which is 96 kg more than the dual-motor AWD version of the standard Model Y.

Powertrain

[edit]

The Model Y L features dual electric motors: 142 kW on the front axle and 198 kW on the rear axle, offering a combined peak power of 340 kW (456 hp). The vehicle is all-wheel drive (AWD) and powered by ternary NMC batteries supplied by LG Energy Solution.[1]

Market

[edit]

At launch in July 2025, the Model Y L was announced to be available only in the Chinese market. It is expected to compete with other extended-wheelbase electric SUVs in China, such as the BYD Tang L, AITO M9, Li L8, and Onvo L90.[1]

In 2024, the Model Y was Tesla's best-selling model in China, with 480,309 units sold. However, sales declined by 17.5% year-over-year in the first half of 2025, following the release of the Model Y Juniper refresh.[1][5]

Design

[edit]

The Model Y L features a unique "Model Y" badge with a stylized "Y". Tesla has shared official teaser images showing a longer side profile and new third-row seating configuration.[6]

Production and Price

[edit]

As of mid-2025, Tesla has not confirmed whether the Model Y L will be produced outside of China. Industry analysts expect pricing to begin around RMB 300,000 (approx. USD $41,800), with other estimates reaching up to RMB 400,000 (approx. USD $55,700).[1][7]
