A Philautus a kétéltűek (Amphibia) osztályába, a békák (Anura) rendjébe és az evezőbéka-félék (Rhacophoridae) családjába tartozó nem. A nembe tartozó egyes fajok az IUCN szerint már kihaltak, míg más fajok széles körben elterjedtek és nagy egyedszámmal rendelkeznek. Ilyen például a Philautus abundus faj, ami pontosan erről a tényről kapta a nevét.
A nem egyedülálló abban a tekintetben, hogy a teljes kifejlődés a petén belül történik, nincs ebihal állapot.[1] Egyes fajok a talajba helyezik el petéiket, mások falevelekre.[2]
Számos, korábban ebbe a nembe sorolt faj 2009-ben átkerült a Pseudophilautus és a Raorchestes nembe.[3]
Előfordulásuk
A nembe tartozó fajok a Dél- és Délkelet-Ázsiában honosak.
