Jude the Obscure je roman engleskog književnika Thomasa Hardyja koji je ispočetka izlazio u nastavcima u časopisu, da bi kao knjiga prvi put bio izdan 1895. godine. Hardy je u romanu kroz tragičnu sudbinu protagonista - mladog kamenoklesara Judea Fawleya i njegovih neispunjenih akademskih ambicija - opisivao društvene predrasude svog doba vezane uz brak, isto kao i uticaj seksualnosti i religije na privatni život pojedinaca. Naturalistički stil kojim je Hardy pristupio svojim temama je skandalizirao njegove suvremenike, te je, duboko pogođen kritikama, Hardy sljedećih tridesetak godina napisao samo jedan roman.
