MTOR (оригінальна назва англ.mammalian target of rapamycin, зараз офіційно англ.Mechanistic target of rapamycin kinase[5]) – білок, який кодується геном MTOR, розташованим у людини на короткому плечі 1-ї хромосоми.[6] Довжина поліпептидного ланцюга білка становить 2 549 амінокислот, а молекулярна маса — 288 892[7].серин/треоніновапротеїнкіназа ссавців родини фосфатидилінозитол 3-кінази, ключовий компонент сигнального шляху, який регулює базові аспекти поведінки клітини, такі як ріст (збільшення маси) і проліферація (поділ), в залежності від її енергетичного статусу, наявності/браку амінокислот, сигналів від факторів росту та інших зовнішніх і внутрішніх факторів. mTOR є мішенню рапаміцину — бактерійного токсину Streptomyces hygroscopicus, що використовується в клініці як імуносупресант і протираковий препарат. Дерегуляція шляху mTOR спостерігається у ряді захворювань людини, в тому числі нейродегенеративних, онкологічних, під час ожиріння та цукрового діабету другого типу[5].
mTOR входить до складу двох мультимерних білкових комплексів, що відрізняються активаторами, мішенями, та чутливістю до рапаміцину. mTOR комплекс 1 — TORC1, що містить білок «raptor», стимулює ріст клітин шляхом пришвидшення біогенезу рибосом і трансляції, сповільнення деградації білків і активації захоплення поживних речовин із середовища. TORC1 чутливий до рапаміцину. До складу TORC2 (mTOR комплекс 2) входить білок «rictor», цей комплекс регулює цитоскелет через родину ГТФаз Rho і допомагає активувати кіназу Akt[8].
